I’m Theo Navarro, I’m a teacher and in-service teacher trainer. I currently live in Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan, and I’ve been here since September 2012. I’m originally from Malta, half British and half Maltese, a native speaker of English.
Since completing my CELTA at the beginning of 2012 I’ve dedicated almost all of my time to teaching. Not just classroom hours, but as much independent professional development as I could reasonably achieve. At this point in my career I’m primarily focusing on teaching Teenagers and teacher training.
I work at a company called Study Inn. We are a language school that operates in most of Kazakhstan’s major cities, and we are also the representatives for Cambridge University Press and Pearson in Central Asia. For the entirety of 2013 I served as the Methodologist for my company, representing Study Inn as well as both of the respected publishers mentioned above.
In 2013 I managed to see more of Kazakhstan than most people born there. I travelled to several different regions and cities to promote coursebooks and conduct teacher training seminars for teachers of local schools. I tendered my resignation, effective as of 1st January 2014, in order to take a position as head of teacher training within our company’s Astana branch. I’m now responsible for organising and conducting in-service training for our teachers.
The next things on my agenda are to continue focusing on teacher training, to continue my own independent development and to begin DELTA in mid 2014.
Me and my group of trainees in Kokshetau, in December 2012. This was taken at the end of a three-day conference, organized by company as representatives of CUP. This was my first teacher-training experience.
